Who is Lake Escape Rentals?

Lake Escape Rentals is a family-run vacation rental business in Huron, Ohio, on the south shore of Lake Erie. It is owned by Marcy Barkema, who lives in the area and hosts all thirteen homes herself.

The homes run from a two-bedroom beach cottage sleeping four to a seven-bedroom beachfront house with a private heated pool that sleeps sixteen. Every one of them is inside Huron or in the private Rye Beach community just east of town — most in neighborhoods that have their own beach access, one directly on the sand.

All of them are roughly twenty minutes from Cedar Point and about the same from the Sandusky docks where the ferries leave for the Lake Erie islands. The homes are listed on the large travel sites too; this site is the direct option, with the whole portfolio and the honest detail in one place rather than spread across thirteen separate listing pages.

The homes

Thirteen houses, one town.

Not a portfolio spread across three counties. Thirteen homes in and beside one small Ohio lake town, which is why we can tell you which beach is sandy, which is rocky, and which week the mayflies turn up.

Marcy Barkema.

“Hi, I’m Marcy. I’m blessed to raise two beautiful daughters now 16 and 14 years old. I love traveling, playing volleyball, sewing and crafting. Airbnb has provided my family with wonderful experiences as a traveler and as a host. Cheers to making memories!”

Marcy owns Lake Escape Rentals LLC, and every house on this site is one of hers. She writes the descriptions herself, which is why they mention the mayflies in June, the rocky entry at some of the private beaches and the train that passes near one of the houses. She answers the phone number and the email address on this page herself too.

How we host

What booking with us actually means.

Where we are

Huron, Erie County, Ohio.

Huron is a town of under 7,000 people where the Huron River meets Lake Erie, roughly halfway between Cleveland and Toledo. It was a shipbuilding port long before it was a holiday one, which is why the waterfront is still public rather than resort-owned: the four-lane boat ramp charges nothing to launch or park, the pier runs a full mile into the lake and stays open all year, and the summer concerts at the boat basin are free.

Our homes are spread across Huron’s lakeside neighborhoods and the private Rye Beach community just east of town. There is no office to visit — Marcy runs the business from home and meets guests at the houses when that helps. Phone or email is the quickest way to reach her.

Working out whether Huron is the right base? The drive-time table on our things to do in Huron page lists everything from Cedar Point and the island ferries to Cleveland Hopkins airport, with distances and times from the middle of town.

About Lake Escape Rentals

Who owns Lake Escape Rentals?

Lake Escape Rentals LLC is owned by Marcy Barkema, who lives in the Huron area and hosts all thirteen homes herself. The phone number and email address on this site reach her directly, not an agency or a call center.

How many vacation homes do you have, and where are they?

Thirteen, all of them in Huron, Ohio or in the private Rye Beach community immediately east of town. They run from a two-bedroom cottage that sleeps four to a seven-bedroom beachfront house with a private heated pool that sleeps sixteen. Most are in neighborhoods with their own private beach access.

Can I book direct instead of through Airbnb or Vrbo?

Yes — that is what this site is for. The homes are also listed on the big travel sites, but booking here puts you in touch with Marcy, who owns the house you are booking and answers her own messages.

Are your homes pet-friendly?

Five of the thirteen accept dogs, and the terms differ by home: two take a maximum of two pets with a fee, one needs a deposit and prior approval, and one is a farmhouse on two acres with a barn that welcomes horses as well as dogs. The limits and fees are on each home’s page.

Do you have an office I can visit?

No. Marcy runs Lake Escape Rentals from home in the Huron area, so there is no walk-in office. Phone and email are the way to reach her, and she answers both herself.

Does Huron require short-term rentals to be licensed?

Yes. Huron operates a transient rental programme under its city ordinance: every rental unit needs an annual certificate, a fire-department life-safety inspection is part of it, and the certificate must be displayed so that it is visible from the street with the owner’s name, email and phone number on it. The city also caps occupancy at three people per premises plus two per bedroom.

What is the best way to work out which home suits us?

Tell Marcy what you are planning — a beach week, a fishing weekend, a Cedar Point trip, a family reunion, a dog in tow — and she will say which of the thirteen fits and which does not. That is a faster conversation than filtering thirteen listing pages.
