The lake fish
The Old Fish House, 30 Main Street — perch baskets and walleye nuggets with homemade Cajun slaw. Pier Pub, 38 Main Street — perch sandwiches and walleye fingers. Harbor House Bar & Grill, 132 North Main. The Sand Bar, 54 McKinley Street — the beach-themed one, with a lake perch sandwich.
Dinner out
The Miller’s Table at Sawmill Creek cooks seasonal and locally sourced. Angry Bull Steak House on Cleveland Road East does dry-aged beef, lobster and crab. Marconi’s on Berlin Road has been serving Italian since 1963 and notes gluten-free options. Mulligan’s Pub has a covered patio looking out at the lake. In July and August, book.
Coffee, pizza and ice cream
Gathering Grounds, 404 Main Street, for coffee before the beach. Trabel’s Bagels does hand-rolled, kettle-boiled bagels. Huron Pizza House, 812 South Main, has been going since 1991 and does gluten-free crusts. Jim’s Pizza Box has been family-owned for close to seven decades.
And Rolling Stone Creamery, 120 Main Street, scoops Toft’s hard ice cream out of a vintage Airstream a short walk from the lighthouse. That is the one guests photograph.
A drink
Mulberry Creek Herb Farm and Winery, 3312 Bogart Road, is the winery inside the city — a working winery on a certified-organic herb farm that also sells Mitchell’s ice cream. Closed Mondays year-round and seasonal otherwise. There is no brewery in Huron itself; the nearest are in Sandusky, on Catawba and at Berlin Heights.
The practical one
Cornell’s Foods, 408 Cleveland Road East, is the family-owned grocery — produce, meat, pantry staples and a deli counter, and the first stop for most self-catering guests. Huron Market on Cleveland Road West does beer, wine and spirits.
This is a seasonal lake town. Hours move about and some kitchens close between November and April, and the local listings do not publish hours. One phone call saves a wasted trip.
