Everything else is easier than people expect. Huron has a fenced dog park, a mile-long pier that is pet-friendly at any hour, and pet-friendly trails at one of the MetroParks.
The dog park
Osborn MetroBark, 3109 Hull Road. Over three acres, fenced, with a separate section for small dogs and a purpose-built doggy playground. This is the one place in town where the lead comes off properly, and it is a few minutes from the homes.
The beach rule, in practice
City ordinance keeps dogs off the beach from 10am to 6pm during the season. That makes it an evening walk, which is no hardship — the sun goes down over the water behind the lighthouse and the beach empties out. Outside the season the restriction does not apply at all.
The pier, which has no rule
The mile-long public pier is open dawn to dusk every day of the year and is explicitly bike- and pet-friendly. No season, no hours to work around, no charge. It is the most reliable dog walk in Huron and the best view in it.
The one that bans pets
Old Woman Creek, the estuary reserve ten minutes east, prohibits pets entirely. People drive out there for the observation deck with the dog in the back and have to turn around. Plan that one without them.
Sheldon Marsh does not publish a pet policy on the ODNR pages we could verify, so check with ODNR rather than assuming it goes either way.
