Winter outdoors
Huron and the shoreline
The mile-long pier is open dawn to dusk every month and the city describes it as a good fishing spot all year. Huron holds a Winter Fest at the boat basin in December with fireworks.

Before you go
Worth knowing first.
Day passes are not guaranteed
Both Sandusky waterpark resorts meter day passes for people not staying there, and neither publishes pricing openly. Telephone before you make the drive rather than arriving and hoping.
What is closed
Cedar Point, Cedar Point Shores, the Paddle Shack, beach services and most island businesses shut outside the season. The Kelleys Island ferry is the one island service that runs year-round, weather permitting.
Winter hours move
Restaurants in a seasonal lake town change hours and some close entirely between November and April, and the local listings do not publish hours. One phone call saves a wasted trip.
Ice fishing
It happens on Lake Erie, but ODNR’s guidance on ice safety here is emphatically cautious and conditions vary enormously year to year. Do not go out on the strength of a web page — ask locally.
