Seasons on Lake Erie
The lake is a different place in May than it is in September. Here is what each season gives you and what it takes away.
What is each season on the Huron, Ohio shoreline actually like?
Lake Erie warms late and holds its heat late. July and August are the swimming months, September is the quietly good one, and the shoulder weeks either side are a different holiday rather than a worse one.
The water lags the air by weeks in both directions, so a warm May weekend still means a cold lake, and a cool late-September one often does not. These posts put numbers to that — water temperatures by month, what is open and what has closed for the year — so you can pick a week with your eyes open.
Winter gets its own post rather than a sentence. Plenty is still open in Huron in January; the question is whether the trip you have in mind is one of the things that is.
