On the water
Huron is a working harbour before it is a holiday one. This is the part we get asked about most, and the part we know best.
What should you know before boating or fishing out of Huron, Ohio?
Huron has a free four-lane public ramp at the boat basin and a harbour that works all year, which is why the fishing questions we get are about seasons and conditions rather than about access.
Walleye and yellow perch are the two fisheries that bring people to this part of the lake, and they do not run on the same calendar. The posts here set out when each one is worth the drive, what the Ohio licence and limit rules are, and where to look them up rather than taking our word for it.
The lake itself is the other half of it. Lake Erie is the shallowest of the Great Lakes, which is exactly why it builds a steep chop faster than its size suggests. Reading the forecast before you launch matters more here than the boat you are launching.
